Katja Hom joins RacingThePlanet: New Zealand 2019 her fourth time on the volunteer team at a RacingThePlanet / 4 Deserts Race. She was born and raised in a small town in former East Germany. After the fall of the wall, she packed two suitcases and set off to conquer America and has lived in the Washington, D.C. area ever since, putting herself through college and working full-time. One of Katja's greatest achievements was working for the city of Berlin promoting tourism as the official representative in North America. The job allowed her to travel all over the United States, Canada and Europe. Following that, she worked at the Foreign News desk of the Washington Post before becoming the Vice President for Business Development at Avery-Hess, Realtors®. Outside of work, Katja loves to travel and has spent significant time in the southwest of the United States where she enjoys hiking, camping, exploring and enjoying local art. She is also a former ballet dancer and rock climber! She now runs daily with her dog as a release from the workday. Having volunteered at three RacingThePlanet / 4 Deserts Races has made her realize how much she enjoys meeting people from all over the world and making friends for life. It is an opportunity to work hard for a week for memories and friends that last a lifetime. Katja is a firm believer in achieving goals, day dreaming and being yourself!
