"I believe anything is possible with the right attitude," says South African born Jan Rutherford. We cannot argue with that statement. More often than not, it is attitude rather than physical ability that gets people across the finish line in a RacingThePlanet / 4 Deserts race. It also helps when you have volunteers like Jan lending their moral support. A professional graphic designer, artist and photographer based near Brisbane in Australia, Jan is also a Cancer survivor determined to live life to the fullest. Cycling, walking and kayaking are her main outdoors interests and she has also been a dedicated supporter of her husband Rodney's running for the past 23 years. Jan has volunteered at the Gobi March (China) 2009, Sahara Race (Egypt) 2010, the Atacama Crossing (Chile) 2015 and the RacingThePlanet Ultramarathons in Australia 2010, Nepal 2011, Iceland 2013, Sri Lanka 2016 and Patagonia 2017 while Rod was running. She also came to The Last Desert (Antarctica) 2016 as oen of the "Friends & Family". Jan will again be there with Rod – and every other competitor as she joins the volunteer team at the RacingThePlanet: New Zealand 2019 for the tenth time at a race organised by RacingThePlanet.
