  • The Sahara Race is part of the 4 Deserts, named by TIME magazine as one of the Top 10 Endurance Competitions in the world for the second year in a row.
  • Roughly 150 competitors from 35 countries will be competing in the Sahara Race 2010.
  • The largest contingent of competitors will come from the United Kingdom.
  • Roughly 80% of the competitors are male and 20% are female.
  • Twelve individuals are on their way to completing the 4 Deserts Grand Slam in 2010: Paul Acheson, Burt Cook, Samantha Gash, Peter Jong, Tremaine Kent, Stan Lee,Terumasa Mori, David O'Brien, Ricky Paugh, Linda Quirk, Lucy Rivers Bulkeley and Philip Tye.
  • Nearly fifty competitors are raising money for charities and organizations around the globe through their participation in the event.
  • The oldest competitor in the Sahara Race 2010 is 75-year-old ultra running legend Jack Denness from the United Kingdom.
  • Nathan Lowe, 63, is making the event a family affair by racing with his son, Matt Lowe, 30, and daughter, Carrie Zederkof, 27, all from the United States.
  • Sahara Race 2010 competitors will include a geophysicist, concert promoter, police officer, space instructor and model as well as business owners, doctors, engineers, bankers and students.
  • Competitors will use special Intel ruggedised laptops in a specially designated Cybertent to write blogs and exchange emails during the event.
  • The Sahara Desert is the largest non-polar, and the hottest, desert in the world.
  • During the event, competitors will cross through the Valley of the Whales running past fossils of whales that died 40 million years ago when the area was under water.
  • The Sahara Race 2010 course will finish at the Pyramids of Giza, which were built for kings and queens by an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 workers and took more than 80 years to complete.
