RacingThePlanet launches 'roving' event with inaugural location of northwest Vietnam

(20 March 2007, Hong Kong) - The remote and pristine area of northwest Vietnam will the location for what will be called ' RacingThePlanet' – a six stage, 250 kilometer, self-supported footrace. In an area untouched by the Vietnam War or the 'American War' as described by the Vietnamese, northwest Vietnam is home to many of the country's most colorful minority tribes. It is also home to the Hoan Lien Mountain Range or Tonkinese Alps as named by the former French colonial rulers -- the location of Indo-China's highest mountain, Mt. Fansipan at 1500 meters (almost 10,000 feet). This area called 'Sapa' contains jungle-like landscape which cradles many rare birds such as Rheinart's pheasants, red-comb pheasants, jungle fowls with colorful feathers and nightingales, among others. Rare monkeys can also be found in the area. In the deep jungle valleys and among lush green rice fields, 100 competitors are expected for ' RacingThePlanet : Vietnam 2007' which will take place from 26 November to 1 December 2007.

RacingThePlanet was launched by request of veterans of the 4 Deserts series as a way to stay in touch with one another and as a way to continue to explore remote parts of the world. RacingThePlanet will be staged in an entirely different country each year and may include locations such as islands, mountains, jungles, deserts and any other rich cultural and diverse landscape in the world.
