Stage 5
18-May-2012 03:13:04 AM [(GMT+08:00) Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Urumqi]

This is just a quick post to say that I completed the Long Stage this morning at 5am as the sun came up. What had begun the day before at 7am was finally done. I had been determined this time around to make it through. It was tough but I feel fine.  I took it very conservatively and in the hottest part of the day took the opportunity to cool off at Checkpoints 4, 5 and 6. From then on I did the last 30k with two of my tentmates, and a couple of others, which made a huge difference. To say it was a demanding day is an understatement. Everyone is saying it was the most difficult Long Stage they had ever attempted. Once  again the scenery was extraordinary..

Today has been spent relaxing at camp as the remaining competitors finished. Some people were out on the course in the blazing heat until 2pm. That would have been hard work.

Tomorrow is a 5k jog into Petra at 6am, then  the medal, real food and a shower.

I'm still trying to comprehend what has been a huge experience on so many levels.

I haven't been able as yet to read the recent comments for some reason, I am looking forward to that as soon as I can get on a computer.

Love to all.

Hi Margaret, Congratulations on completing the Jordan race. Here at Dawul Remote Community School at Doon Doon Station, all the kids in our class were cheering you on. We\'re so proud of you. You are awesome. From the Years 4-7 class. P.S. We thought you might like to know that your friend Chelsea won a scholarship to attend the Peninsula School on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. She will start Year 8 there next year.

Just to say I did a sub 2 today at SMH half so very happy. Helen pulled out of NTF at CP3 due to stomach issues but seemed ok about it. so lots of Striders on the course today which was nice.

Margaret Dear, what a superb achievement!! We are all so proud of you. It was a pleasure to read your blog. I wept tears as I emphasised with your description of the torrid "Long March". You certainly are a Trojan with your qualities of pluck, endurance and determined energy but also another quality, the ability to apply "common sense" to the handling of the toughest aspects of the course. I leave for London tonight and look forward with happiness to seeing you in person and hearing your experiences of Jordan 2012. The three of us will be able to celebrate your success with great enthusiasm at Rules! Love, Margaret and Tammy.

We are so pleased to read your account of the Long Stage. I can't believe you were on your feet for 22 hours!! Must be the Welsh Heart! Rest up and enjoy the last day and the experience of Petra. Am so looking forward to seeing you in person in the next few days in London and hearing all about it. Don't wear your medal through security at Heathrow! lots of love, Dad (and Lyndall) xx P.S. Our friends here at Yass all send their good wishes and are amazed at your tenacity. Btw, Dad was the Karaoke Star at the women's club event last night - truly! Best voice of all, esp his rendition of "Strangers In The Eyes" and we did a duet of "Green, Green Grass of Home".
