Stage 4
16-May-2012 07:25:57 AM [(GMT+08:00) Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Urumqi]

Stage 4 done. and if it isn't tempting fate i kinda felt ok today - cranked another one out in 7 hr 41 i think. Terrain was easier on the feet with not too soft sand and rolling hills. good and hot but thankfully a bit of a breeze. couple of nice sandstone arch formatiions for those who like their geology. Just after checkpoint 3 a cheeky rapscalion of a local boy had knicked the pink marker flags that we follow through the desert...he then came along and replanted them and asked for a Dinar (jordanian currency). -more likely to get a thick ear. todays campsite if close to some precipitous cliffs - hopefully noone sleepwalks at night. hong kong chaps - thanks for the encouragement and the reminders of cold beer - 3 days to go till a frosted one. so it is the long one tomorrow - a mere 89km of fun in the sand - as such i will not likely be on line until friday. Congrats Wubes and the Japan TW team - good effort. Thanks Shazz n Will for the encouragement - i am kinda looking for more Eggscellent Jokes. Better go now, as i need toget myself ready for tomorrow, which is going to be a slog. love & regs. dg

At last results are coming through....well done. The beer's got your name on it and I fear the bars are stocking up here in HK. Very proud. XX

Results just came out. Not only you did it - you did extremely well! Excellent performance on the long day. If the stage was 160k, you would have make to top 20! Last push for those beers!!

DG - I hope that you survived the "long one" without too many injuries. Enjoy that cold beer and can't wait to hear all about it next week!

Bumped into any camel jockeys on your travels DG? hope there was no repeat of the 'dark hole of gloom' with the precipitous cliffs nearby last night. keep up the good work - will need all your strength when you return to the "darker hole of gloom & doom" at Pacific Place next week! Reminds of that great Aussie saying: "you can get it walking, you can get it talking, as a matter of fact - I've got it now" Any chance of getting a VB in Jordan?

1st the important bit - 1st Test: West Indies 243 for 9 Broad took 6 wickets. 2nd: Tiverton Hosp being demolished, soon to be rubble and no blue plaque to mark your birthplace. 3rd: Well done Dave on stage 4. We could do with 40 degrees this end - spring hasn't yet sprung. L.O.L from Dad & Eve

Stage 4 done - fantastic result. Hope those English chicken legs are holding up well, have you bumped into LOA by any chance. LOA - Laurence of Arabia. I heard he was in the vicinity - keep a look out for him, I am sure you might be able to see in far away on the horizon carrying a big water bottle and fresh grapes.....mate super effort and mightily impressed with your achievement.....just dropped a few dinar into your account in case you need to pay more locals for stealing the markers

OK, David... so take it easy for the long one, and just think of beers at the end...of the week!

You'd think the RTP folks would offer up a cold keg at the end of each stage to go with the footbaths. Good luck on the long one. Dan

Have spotted you in some of the RTP\'s photos and looking good. Remember you can always shelter Bear Grylls style in a camel carcass should needs be. All going well so keep plodding on. xx

You make it sound like it's a breeze (excuse the pun), something you'd probably like more of, given the 40Celsius! Scenery sounds amazing, and rather diffrent to the one in HK, rain, rain and more rain. Good luck for the long day tomorrow. I'll be there every step of the way..in spirit!
