Change of plan
15-May-2012 07:50:48 AM [(GMT+08:00) Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Urumqi]

hi everyone

Thank you so much for all the emails and posts, i made it through stage three thank goodness, but i have to admit, I had the Mariana Trench of Kinipshins today just before the second checkpoint, and reading all your posts,Ifeelvery bad that i couldn, tjust get my head together, but I had such an issue dealing with the sand, the whole day except for a beautiful section across some salt flats was just loose sand.

We exited out the ass end of the Wadi Rum (and that is pretty much literal and figuratively how i felt) and entered a new desert

Today was burning hot, about 40 degrees, and added to the sand, itdidnt make for a great day.

We started off going through a very tight vcanyon, and then hit the sand for long stretches.

We ran across a camel racing track, and across the salt flats and through a small town before getting back into the desert.

Most disconcerting was the animal carcasses and skeletons that we ran passed. The last stage of about 10km was gruelling, and the truth is that my legs were fine when i got into camp, i was suffering mentally more than anything else.

Anyway, I am going to stop moaning now, i just need to spend some time and get my head back in the game.

A lot of people are complaining that the gaiters are causing blisters.

I am going to lose two  toenails and I have two really bad blisters, both on the toe next to the big toe.

My velcro is coming off my shoes and the glue is not working to stick them back on, so I might just take my chances tomorrow without no sand protection, otherwise besides some chafing I am in good shape, which I am happy about.

Chat tomorrow

Chin up dude. If it was easy we'd all be doing it! The main thing is you're still in it, and still climbing the ladder. Blisters heal, toe nails grow back (sometimes) and the sand eventually comes to an end. Keep it up dude, you're rocking it!

... see there's always something in life to be thankful for even when everything seems stacked up against you - just remember that you could have been born a camel ... they're ugly, grumpy, smelly, and have to trudge through sand for an entire lifetime! Sounds to me like you're doing incredibly well, and I see you're moving up the leaderboard daily ... so keep it up!!!! Hope today goes really well, and that you're strong and ready for stage 5 tomorrow - just think of that rest day on Friday!! See you Saturday - yay!!!!

one checkpoint at at time dude! the mind can play funny games, but you've made it to day 4....fanf..ingtastic. And you are doing so so well, super COOL. Cheering very hard from this side. Hope today is going well and that those stupid blisters doesn't bother you to much. Jy is 'n MASJIEN!!!!!

Howzit Andrew.. Those mental games more often than not overshadow the physical side of things. I guess hitting the 'wall' is all about finding the door to the other side, and not ending up running parallel to it!! As you will well know, one or two crap days can suddenly turn into some of the best running you've had in a while...blisters and all. Let the mind lead and the body WILL follow. All the best dude, holding thumbs for you here in Abu Dhabi.

As we used to say "Come on Possum" So proud of you for accomplishing what u have so far and repeatedly amazed by what you put your body through and overcome. Auntie Alvie following along as well and told me to tell you she is green with envy for all the places you have seen in Jordan. All the best for today. Hope the decision pays off.
