If Your Aunt Had Nuts She'd Be Your Uncle
15-May-2012 07:46:38 AM [(GMT-04:00) Atlantic Time(Canada)]

How's that for a title?

Stage (3) complete.

My feet, ankles and shins are killing me from the constant sand underfoot. It was a crazy hot day here today and the toughest terrain yet, in my opinion.

Keeping this one short so I can get back to the tent and rest. Going to keep the pace down tomorrow so I can make it through and hopefully get to the long march the following day...that was the plan today too but I was overtaken at the midway point and chased the rest of the day. I'll have to use my brain a little more if I,m going to make it to the end of this.

No blisters yet

Need more food.

Everybody here is a freak of nature. The leader of the race is running 40k in under 4 hours through sand, over rock all with a pack on in 40 degree heat, crazy.

Wish me luck on stage (4)

Good news, you moved up ten spots. Bad news, I heard thirty people dropped out. If my maths correct, and I'm pretty sure it is, you've slowed down thirty-three and a thrid percent. I heard your in a sand storm. Whats that like? Pretty sandy? Keep going!

Good job Chris, keep it up!!!!

"the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" you got this buddy, one foot after the other.

Wow, done stage 4; incredible. Big one tomorrow and you can do it. Only listen to your brain as much as you need to. If it gets all uppity just listen to your heart. You got this...

Stage four complete, what a feat (or should we say feet). This is really top notch. Really proud of you, keep that spirit. Watching every step. RacingThePlanet is now our homepage. All our best for the next stage, keep strong

Dear Chris, Giv'r, you're from the river! Drive 'er Francis! Kick Ass. Fill your boots! Every step takes you closer to your destiny. May the force be with you. I imagine you are filling your head with new expressions you can publish on your blog when you get back to Fredericton. Think of the ongoing rugby rivalry between "the celestial city" and "the foggy city" as the 7's tournament and Rugby Skills Challenge takes place Saturday. Boz and Andy are playing with the Rock and doing outstanding jobs. It has been raining cats and dogs here but good weather predicted for your celebratory homecoming! From reading the comments, it seems that your friends are stocking up on beer for you...all different brands too. Must think you are an alcoholic or something. Whatever..It's not what other people think that counts most. Malcolm picked up some Scotch on his way home from the rugby tour to Boston with the young lads for when you've had your fill of beer or they run out. I'll keep a Brita pitcher of refreshing cold water ready too. May the grace and peace and love and joy of the Holy Spirit be with you every step of the way. Love, Nancy

Oh the mental game....the worst of it all. Freak of Nature is doing some crazy stuff, but I would say 40 km in hot sand with a backpack under 7 hours is pretty damn impressive if you ask me. Almost done, almost done, almost done!!!!! YEEHAWWWWW! Keep it up Aaen, you are inspiring us back home :)

Posted: 16-May-2012 01:25:53 PM

Mind over Matter Chris!Stay Strong, You can do this! We are all cheering you on over here!!!

Great title! That is one of my favorites. Everyone here is following right along with you, Chris, I hope you can feel that support out in the desert. One foot in front of the other, can't wait to hear you talk about this in person. You're getting closer and closer! Mmmm beer. xo

good luck Chris. luka and I are following you every morning. I keep thinking of the amazing stories about Shakleton and his voyage at the south pole when I read your blog and see the course photos. He survived because of his attitude and drive. For the next few days you are him. you'll persevere too. Keep your sense of humor going....it is your best weapon now against the desert. I can't wait to hear the stories when you get back. Hammer on! Peter and Luka.

I know your pain, 4 days in the gobi with heat in the mid 50s. Your time looked good yesterday but maybe a bit fast. Take your time find someone of equal pace to walk and talk with. Will help pass the time, and distract your mind from your feet. One check point at a time. You are over half way, its all down hill now :) just remember our long hikes in the snow to cool you off

Posted: 16-May-2012 06:20:37 AM

Great work Aaen, we're watching proudly from Petra. It was only 25 celcius here yesterday so you should find the course starting to cool a bit by tomorrow as you approach the city. Patience is going to get you through the long march tomorrow. You should be out of the sand tomorrow too. Take care of those feet.

Good luck on the next stage, Capital O! Keep it going!

Posted: 16-May-2012 03:05:56 AM

Oh, that sense of humour ;) The leader IS a freak of nature, his times are unreal, but so are yours my love. I am AMAZED at your progress and can't wait to see you on the end of this. Everything is great here at home! FInally stopped raining for a bit, and I have a feeling you'll want the fleece sheets OFF the bed when you get home. Wish I was there to slow clap you through this, but lets be honest I'm such an asshole when I'm hot ;) I miss you so much, lots of love and support. It's midnight our time, so you'll be off in an hour, I'm with you every step xoxox!
