Stage 3
15-May-2012 07:30:57 AM [(GMT+08:00) Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Urumqi]

Hot diggity dog. Set off a bit faster today and of course managed to slow down nicely by the end for a 7 hr 42. Spectacular and varied scenery- started in canyons, across a salt flat, back into a new desert for the afternoon -  by which stage we were topping 40 degrees…feet feeling sore, and blisters in the usual places, but not too bad. almost had a toilet incident this morning – I am not a very flexible person – in many ways – so when needing to do a number 2 I need to hold onto one of the corner poles in the long drop toilet tent. Needless to say this one decided to come out of the ground nearly taking the tent down and sending me spinning towards the black pit of doom. It was the fastest footwork I used all week to date. After the salt flats we passed through a bedoiun village – and into the hills just as the call to prayer echoed off the cliffs, half buried in the desert sands were the skeletal corpses of sheep and camels..atmospheric. nice touch from the racing the planet folks to stick a pink marker flag out of the remains of a camel – haha. Thanks for all the comments on blog and email – it is great to read. Thank’s shazz and will for the eggstraordinary jokes. Xx to u both. Good to see man utd lose in such dramatic circumstances – ha ha again.3 days down..lets crack out day 4. Cheers dg

all I can think is about how had you gone into the Black Hole of Doom, there would have been little you could have done about it due to lack of abundant water......urgh! long day awaits - sure and steady........keep chewing up the kms cheers Meaghan & Jack

So after years in blissful ignorance of your toilet habits I now have a graphic image of you perching for a poo!!!! Still epic as ever and believe me when I say that even though shaz and I are in the grand Hyatt sipping champagne and eati g fish and chips you are top of our minds,,,,, honest! I have been a woeful blogger but this seemed to be the moment . Seriously we r very proud of you , stay safe. Oh yes and just do you know we went to the art fair and shaz thought you deserved a present so went straight for the Picasso but we r confident that we will get more than the 500,000 GNP reserve when she takes it to auction in Cornwall !!! Big hugs nails

I'll bet your tent-mates don't smell as bad as the ones you had in Oz..

Dg, Well done on Day 3 - good steady pace! Very entertaining loo story - no wonder it made to the RTP breaking news today... just kidding! Try to bring trekking poles next time - they should do the trick... Please pass regards to Choon Lang and Muz (who are too lazy to keep a blog!) and wish them good luck. Tape well, rest well and good luck at Stage 4!

Dg, nice work on latrine duty. Despite 3 days in the desert and some blisters, good to see you still have the silky skills and footwork. Put some beans in the tank for the short day Thurs. The glass is frosted and the beers are icy...keep it up.

David, sounds like you are going strong - apart from the toilet incident! Keep it up. Long day next - always fun!

Dear David, On behalf of all of the staff at CASC I would like let you know that we are all cheering you on! It certainly sounds like the adventure of a lifetime! Wishing you all the best, Ziad

I should think that the loo incident will be enough to keep your bowels at bay. Must say all that toilet detail is very HK...you've been here too long! I'm sure William will have plenty of toilet jokes now and put the egg ones to bed. Very proud of you...keep going. XX

DG - as you have been asking about sport results, it woudl be remiss of me not to let you know that Australia defeated England in the 7's quarter final at Twickenham last weekend. That should no doubt provide you with some added incentive over the next few days - that and the cold Jordanian beer ....

Well done Dg - almost halfway there and the beer is getting closer. sorry to hear abotu your almost unfortunate 'dark hole of gloom' (or is that doom?) incident, still I suppose you have been in worse situations?!?... keep up the good work and watch out for those carcasses

Keep out of the bogs David...the sand must be smelly enough, if they've got dead animals there... and keep going...7.42 seems a great time to me! cheers, jim
