Camp 1
13-May-2012 01:47:14 AM [(GMT+09:00) Osaka, Sapporo, Tokyo]

Sand .... Sand ....Sand ....The Devils sporn .....It everywhere, in every crack and crevice !!!

This was the moderate day .........4x10 k legs no great climbs or falls maybe 200m up and down per 10k .....But on soft mixed sand and gravel was a tad harder than advertised. Managed to get home in 6h45 keeping up a decent 6k and hour as the temperature got up to late 30s. A decent breeze kept it managable so now we have another 40k tom in the same stuff with the first 10k stage labeled as difficult!!!

The Italians are putting up a great performance at camp .....I guess they keep the budgies to shove down their speeedos in their 7kg backpacks !!! Luckily there are no small children to scare.

There was a near fatal accident earlier as the local lad looking after the hot water almost knocked the lot over looking at one of the more "naturally blessed" female competitors walked past in a tank top !!!! His eyes looke like a cartoon charicter !!!!

Guys and Girls in the tent are good fun ...Even the French  Guy  !!!! I knew there had to be a decent one somewhere !!!hahahaha

Tents are great bedouin style cool at night so all good so far ....All eyes on the 90k long day on Thursday with 2500m up and down which will be tough as there is a 700m climb at 40 ish K which willbe in the middle of the day .......Loads of guys waiting so i will check in tom !!!!

Why are you competing?
Although Gobi was the toughest thing I have ever
done I had an amazing time and met some great
people. The physical and mental challenge of
friendly competition on the course is countered by
the views and the banter of evenings round the
fire.
