Well, I have to say, that
was certainly an
experience. Parts of the
run were amazing, the
night sky on section 4
and the Irish guy's
jokes at the drink
stations, other parts
were just painful, the
"death valley"
of section 6 I believe
and that twig thingy
near the end; but all in
all, Fantastic. The staff
and volunteers were
absolutely amazing. How
you all managed to keep
smiling and joking after
being stuck in the middle
of nowhere for hours on
end was truly a feat,
and the medical staff
were just brilliant, my
blisters have never
looked so good. Well
done to all who took
part in this, a great
bunch and a good laugh
one and all. I was
really lucky to run with
Anna, an absolute
stalwart and one of the
toughest ladies I know.
She really made the
whole thing much more
enjoyable. Thanks

Prolapsed C5 disk (neck),
not so good! I've been
going to the chiro every
other day for the last 2
weeks and my right arm
is still numb and have
serious pain in my
shoulder, but whatever
doesn't kill
you...right? Managed to
eke out about 60k last
week and 75k the week
before, despite this,
but this week i'm going
to try running without
the back pack to see if
that helps (short term
fix) to get the miles up
a bit. Meeting Anna later
for a long run and its
mid 30's, clear skies,
absolutely perfect for
an evening run; I'm
getting quite excited
about it :-) I've
been using the Chia
seeds, not sure if they
help but they do turn
into a pretty decent gel
after about 20 mins in
the fridge, so I'll
carry on with them for a
bit.I still need to get
the gaiters and ski
poles. I'm reccying a
run in Hangzhou on
Sunday, so I'll be in a
position to test drive
any poles I might get. |

| How daft is this |
| 05-Jul-2010 06:29:19 AM [(GMT+08:00) Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Urumqi] |
So, I was sitting at home
last Tuesday, drinking a
coffee and having a
smoke, reading Denvy
Lo's (female winner of
the Gobi march) blog,
and suddenly thought
"I should do
something like
this". I got to
work and skyped Anna
Lyster with my idea, and
she said why not! So I
registered for the 100k
Taklamakan race; with 7
weeks to do the
training. I met Anna
Tuesday evening and we
did our first 12k
training run in 38
degrees and 85%
humidity. It was like
breathing liquid ozone!
So, a week into this and
I've clocked up 70 odd k.
I've no idea how this is
going to pan out, but
we've agreed to run
together and drag each
other screaming and
biting to the finish
line. I've been
reading Eric's blog and
he's clocking up some
serious miles. I
seriously doubt we'll be
able to get anywhere near
that sort of mileage in
such a short timeframe,
but this certainly isn't
about breaking any
records! If any of you
guys have any tips for
novices like us, please
let me know. |
