Stage 5
09-Aug-2013 09:00:41 AM [(GMT+08:00) Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Urumqi]

Hello Everyone,

It hs been a fun and challenging race.  If you are looking for me in a picture, I will be the one fully covered up.  I am the only one wearing blue puffy pants and jacket.  I look like a blue Pilsbury dough boy until yesterday.

I feel like a worn out pack horse carrying a couple have bags of humility, paing, and exhaustion.  I probably look like I’ve been hit by a truck.

Yesterday, the long day, I woke up up in the middle of a pond in my tent.  It seems mother nature didn’t want us sleeping in comfort.  The first 10k my rain pants were in the way and ended up getting torn.  Thank god I had my Tyvk suit underneath it.  This only lasted so long.  The wind was blowing aroung 40-45 mph with a pelting rain.  It was horrible. I didn’t take one picture yesterday but I have a lot of memories- the long black sand beach with 12 foot waves, geargous light house, lava fields and the torture of the rain.  I walked/ran the whole day by myself until the last 20 miles or so.  I met up with a guy from Wales named Paul.  He pulled me till the end.  His stride could match the best.  We finish the last 10l in about 1 hour and 25 minutes.  My body and hands were frozen.  I tore my remainging pair of pants with about 15 miles left to the end.  So I did the rest of the race with torn pants. You talk about being cold.  I had 3 jackets on and no pants what a lasting memory.

Thanks to all who have sent me emials and commented on the blogs.  It is good to know it’s over 100 in Texas.  It is good to read everyone’s comments.  One more day and the fun will be over.  I’m gonna miss sleeping in a wet cold tent. ;)  Can’t wait to see everyone soon.

I want to thank BeFearless.org for providing supllies for this race.  If you get a chance please visit the website. Mary Ann is doijg great things for the chilrren.  Thank You.

It is still freaking cold!! Today was a little better. I don’t the the tortoise will win the race today. We stated the ray by goin through a lava tube or cave in the US.  It was nice and different. My heat rate sky rocket during this due to a lot of rocks/boulders, dark and my ankles hurt.  This was not a good combination.  Next came the horse trails.  I actually pickked up the pace here till the next check point.  This next check point was wheb the wind and cold started. I need more warm clothes. The big hills started and the scenary was great. We came across the gysers(sp?) I’m thinking I should have dove in since the water was warm. We finished the day by running through a stream. I actually watched everyone in front of me debate on how to get across so I grab a big rock a ways back to use as a stepping stone. Only got one foot partially wet. ;)

Tomorrow should be an interesting day if this wind and rains continues. Its only 40+ miles tomorrow. I am planning on taking my time and try to have some fun.

My tent mates are a blast which helps the evenings go by quicker.

I hope everyone is safe at home.  Mom- I hope Ranger is doing fine. I woke up from a dream at 4am thinking Ranger got hit by a car.:( .

Thanks to all who have sent emails or commented on the blog. Chop Chop

Stage 3
06-Aug-2013 02:33:56 AM [(GMT+08:00) Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Urumqi]

It was a slow day today. The weather improved and it became a little warmer and less wind.  The glaciers were a great view yesterday. The only thing that I disliked was the wind coming off oc them at 50 mph. No joke, I needed my ski glasses. The views are wonderful when I have a chance to look up.  It seems the terrain is a bunch of rocks with little soft areas. The norse stables we stayed at last night was fantastic.  It gave us a break from the wind.

I'm worn out from the three days of carrying a 17 pounds.  My shoulders are sore and my left ankle has been hurting.  I've been taping it which seemed to help.  I dont want to end up like I did couple of years ago.  I will continue to asses, adjust and evaluate every 10 minutes or so while on the course.  Time to eat and get my feet lifted.

Thanks everyone for the messages- email/blogcomments.  Mom- I hope Ranger is behaving and not causing trouble.

Thanks again. Chop Chop
Stage 2
05-Aug-2013 04:41:57 AM [(GMT+08:00) Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Urumqi]

Hello to everyone,

I finished day 2… It is still COLD!!!! Thanks to all for the emails/blog comments.   My body doesn’t seem to want to function.  I passed the time today thinking about all my friends and what would they be telling me at that moment.  Mom- “you are crazy”  Allen “it isn’t that far” Jenny,”Lawrence, are you sure you want to do this?” Heather “I don’t want to see your feet”  Joe/Mark “Lets get it on!” “Are you engaging?”    I could go on but I only had a pop tart for breakfast and the only thing for the day.  My blood sugar is low.   Y’all bring a lot of smiles to me face and it helps me to kill time while on the course.  My equipment is doing well.  My tent mates rock.  We all seem to finishing around the same.  I will discuss how I feel at a later date.  Thanks to all who are following and sending emails.  Chop Chop till tomorrow.
Stage 1

Buuuurrrrrr.. my fingers got stuck on the keyboard.  It is very cold here. I should have packed more of my winter clothes, to be exact my ski clothes.  It  was sleeting this morning.  I’m doing ok. My body is hurting but spirit is well.  I have to make this short cause I was last one into cyber tent.  I carried a Dr. Pepper today because of my tent mate. He put the soft drink in my backpack last night and I never noticed. So I had a soft drink for dinner tonight. I will be checking my pack every morning before I take off. I hope everyone is doing well at home.  We haven’t received any of them but they promise we will get tomorrow.  This happens at every race. Chop Chop. It is time for me to get back in my sleeping bag.  Thanks to everyone who have sent emails or commented on my blogs. Stay tuned the fun hasn’t even started.
