151 days and counting
02-Jan-2013 04:05:57 AM [(GMT-07:00) Mountain Time(US & Canada)]

Playing in the snow
Holy smokes, it's 2013... and there are only 151 days left before the race.  Unbelievable!

We finally got some winter weather around here, and it's taking a bit of getting used to.  I did a short race about a month ago, and my basic snow-grippers were fine.  However, a recent cold snap has required that I get the real spikes out for the ice!  (Whoever invented Kahtoola micro-spikes was a genius!)  Alas, that has also meant that I've done little real running of late.  :-(  I've got a bit of a wonky stride, and the spikes- of course - limit foot rotation at the ground.  The last time I took off running on ice without sufficient practice, I ended up back on a cane for a couple of days, so THIS time, I'm playing it safe.  Slow and easy does it.  (I'll also be able to get some time in on the treadmill once university is back in session.)  Next Saturday is the local Fat Ass 50k, and I plan to get out there and go as best I can.  I'll probably end up walking most of it, but it'll be good to just keep going that long.

I've also managed to get my website up and running, so that I can tackle fundraising for my chosen charities at full speed.  Please feel free to take a look and send some feedback!  There's a link on the right under "blogroll" to www.muddydogs.net

Happy New Year!

Why are you competing?
I've always wanted to do a long, difficult foot
race. Events over the last few years have made me
realize that time doesn't slow down, and that
there is no time like the present in which to
accomplish something.
