RacingThePlanet: Ecuador 2015 Blogs

Stage 3
29-Jul-2015 03:52:37 AM [(GMT+08:00) Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Urumqi]

What goes up must go down. We had a reality check today and ended up walking a lot more than we intended. We were out in the field for about 7 hours and it was a hard day at the office. My feet (Tim) are in bad shape and everyone else has similar issues – James is saying goodbye to a big toenail, Kim is sitting in the tent attending to blisters and Charlie is keeping us all amused with his various “niggles”. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say we hobbled rather than walked today! Tonight’s camp is set in a beautiful valley not too far from a river. The campfires are burning and everybody is busy setting up for tomorrow. Rain is expected tonight but so far we’ve only had a little drizzle. Tomorrow is another massive day – only 40 odd kilometres but we’ll be climbing 2985 vertical meters and descending around 3000meters so once again …. A whole lot of up and downs. As I write this blog runners are still coming in to cheers and applause and drums! We’ve been in at camp for about 2 hours and there are still probably about 20 or so runners still out in the hills. We’re struggling to keep pace with the Canadian and Australian teams so we’re just focusing on running our own race. Currently we’re in 3rd position in the teams category. Some epic views today and amazing scenery. Sorry this blog is a little jumbled but it’s not easy sitting down to write after a day like we’ve had! Day 4 tomorrow!

Hi boys! Firstly no apologies necessary, if it all gets too much bullet pointing might be an option? Sounds like a rough day, thinking of you all with blisters and missing toenails. But there ain't nothing wrong with walking! Isn't that right Charlie and Timmy? I suppose that half marathon us three did seems like a stroll in the garden, or not even. Anyway as always thinking of you and sending you oodles of love, support and virtual hugs. Go the Ultra's!! Team NZ rules xxxx
