Day 3
29-Jul-2015 03:43:50 AM [(GMT+08:00) Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Urumqi]

Well having experienced the Inca trail today I can safely say those Incas were good at climbing hills/mountains. Started the day in near freezing conditions and full fog. Ended the day in bright sunshine and added to the tan/pinkness. Yes Mr Pike there may be a new nickname there J (thanks for the message – I am dreaming of wispa golds)

Probably the most beautiful trail I have shuffled on, although climbing up and down valleys and gorges was tough. Some incredible people here and really spurred me on today seeing how focused they are.

Day 4 is looming with pretty much 100% up for 40km and 1200m gain. Bring it on!

Energy: 9/10
Feet: 5.5/10 looking more like tape than feet. We have an agreement – they hurt like hell and the family of blisters on each feet punish me in camp and if I stop on the course but if I take paracetamol regularly and the essential peanut m&m every hour they just throb and don’t make me cry.

Unusual incident: Quote from the doctor ‘your feet are like one big blister’ and also my tent mate tripping over on a steep trail today and wiping me out…landing in a pile of rucksacks and adding a grazed hand to the injury slate.

Energy: 9/10 good sleep and day out t check point 3 aka disco checkpoint at the entrance to the Inca trail – great view!
Adapting to outdoor life: 8/10 weirdly got used to not washing my hair for three days. Also ate dinner out of a bag last night…but also had a fresh avocado in my big bag which was more delicious than ever. Getting up at 4am, drinking tea in front of a bonfire every morning and special k with uht milk out of my aluminium cup has somehow become normal.

Just think of those Cocktails in New York awaiting you! Something from Sir Ranulph Fiennes to keep you going... “I am doing this for many reasons, some of which I don’t fully understand. That there is an inner urge is undeniable.” Good Luck! You're on the home stretch now.

Good work Ben and Dilpa! Sounds like an amazing adventure. Feet don't sound too pretty but well done for keeping going. Think Mel is more shocked about not being able to wash your hair for six days though! Looking forward to hearing all about it over a beer. Onward atheist soldiers!

Wow guys you're doing amazingly! Love the blog and hearing about your layers Dilps, reminds me of Havant Bike Shed days. Keep on moving Ben and just think of that cool pool to dip your feet in in Miami!

Ais has made a special request for Dilpa to stay in her volunteer-state until she gets back to Singapore. I think we all want to see that sight... the promise of a spa-day is there as a reward! Ben - I look forward to hearing of your rugby-tackle retribution on your tent mate. You could be nice by ensuring he has a soft landing... Have a great day 4 & look forward to reading about it.
