Stage 1
27-Jul-2015 07:37:42 AM [(GMT+08:00) Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Urumqi]

Crossing the Panamerica
End of stage 1!

The last couple of day sucked. At 3am on Saturday I got hit with a stomach bug. Apparently I looked quite terrible going by the comments about my improvement today. I felt terrible!
Anyway, gear check had my bag weigh in at 9kg. A little heavier than I wanted, but lighter than Iceland.
At camp last night we had a great view of Cotopaxi. I missed some awesome sunset photo opps though and went to bed early.
Today’s stage was to be 48km, first part went well, then got cramping after checkpoint 2 which sucked. Some foul tasting  medication definitely improved things, but I wasn’t able to eat much at all today which is a problem. Walked with a man named Rick from Canada and we motivated each other as I was under orders to take it easy and we were both finding it a bit of a slog. Especially the last 13km.
Tonight’s camp is in a monastery which is quite cool. But it’s cold and the keyboard is annoying me so I’m going to go to sleep.
Mum, thanks for your comment, feeling much better today. Meds from the travel doctor are helping. Can you please forward the how to follow the race email to Sarah McNiel? She was interested and I forgot (oops).

Tomorrow will be tough, but hopefully I can get some calories in!
I love my poles and my shoes and my sleeping bag and my sleeping mat…..

Cheers all,
Kris

Hey sorry about blogging an extra 3 times but I thought it didn't go through and kept on pushing then finally something came through to say it had gone through - go figure. Any way I emailed Sarah for you with the contact details. Yesterday Dad went to the Doctors for a toe infection and had Timmy and was telling him about what you were doing and he gave Dad's appointment for free instead of charging the usual $50.00 $60.00. How about that? Hope you are feeling a bit better and can get some food down. They are taking some amazing photos of the scenery and competitors. Hope the weather holds off. I saw some competitors in raincoats. xxxx

Yay Kris! Glad you made it safely kthrough the first stage. Sucks that you haven't been feeling well though, what terrible timing. Good on you for powering through though. Cant wait to see how you go in stage 2 :)

So pleased you are feeling a bit better. I knew exactly what you were going through and was feeling for you and was so pleased when you wrote this blog so I knew you were ok. Dad has had food poisoning (stomach bug) and couldn't even get out of bed so at one stage I thought you might not be able to compete and would have to pull out then I saw your photos and was pleased you looked a lot better. Yes getting the food down will be a problem. The scenery looks amazing from the photos the RTP are putting up. I will email Sarah later this evening with the link etc. Look after yourself. Thinking about you. Mum xxxxxxxx
