ABOUT Iceland

The island of Iceland is 103,000 square kilometers / 39,769 square miles (about a third of the size of the United Kingdom) and is made up mainly of mountainous lava desert. It has the most versatile and scenic landscape in the northern hemisphere with glaciers, volcanoes, geysers, fjords, rough-country, green rolling hills and mountains reaching up to 2,119Â meters / 6,952Â feet above sea level. The volcanically active island has a temperate climate despite its location just outside the Arctic Circle.
