Stress Fracture Fail :(

19th February 2013 02:04 AM[(GMT+10:00) Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney]

After a month of being concerned with a pain in my thigh, my fears were confirmed last week when a scan showed a stress fracture in my femur and I have withdrawn from the Atacama Crossing on the advice from my doctor.

Terribly gutting news after training so hard over the past six months and was so excited to get out there and experience the unbelievable. I have found everyone to be so supportive which has certainly helped and it has made me more determined than ever to complete a RTP event. Not this time it seems but watch out Gobi, I have you in my sights :)

Good luck everyone, I hope it goes amazing for you all!

Well Mate, the sign of an accomplished athlete is one that listens to his body no matter how motivated they are to continue when pragmatism says stop. This is what we do, we ask our bodies to do things that the average Joe wont, so sometimes we have to spend a bit more time in the workshop fixing the machine. No shame in pulling out in fact quite the opposite. Get fixed & we will all see you on the next one...

Peter This is devastating news to say the least. I feel for you man. Keep your chin up. There will be another race again soon. Rest, relax, take care of yourself.
